Michelle Ryan has gone from eastender to westender, from a cockney Slater star to a cockney zombie killer. Today she’s making her stage debut as the lead role, Sally Bowles, in the number one musical, Cabaret.

Opening at the beginning of this week, Michelle will be playing Sally (famously played by Liza Minnelli) alongside national treasure Will Young, both giving their debut performances at London’s Savoy Theatre. The angel-faced actress first familiarized herself with the great British public playing angst-ridden teenager Zoe Slater in Eastenders. Since leaving The Square, she has swapped her Walford ways for the bright lights of the big screens and stages. Playing Katy in the foul-mouthed, zombiefied cockney comedy horror, Cockneys Versus Zombies Michelle made the transition from small screen to silver screen effortlessly, also appearing alongside Peter Mullen and Ashley ‘Bashy’ Thomas as Alexia in The Man Inside. Now entering her most exciting role to date, i-D online caught up with Michelle to chat about life after Eastenders and her aspirations for the future.

Cabaret runs at the Savoy Theatre until 19th January 2013.
